Every week, around 200,000 people visit the Kingdom Shopping Centre. The majority of our shoppers are from Glenrothes and the surrounding areas, people who support the Centre and its retailers - week in, week out.

That’s why we like to help local groups, schools and sports clubs as much as we can. It’s our way of giving something back, and the Kingdom Shopping Centre has been awarded the Community Mark, "Big Tick", Scottish Retail Shopping Location of the Year & SBCC Safer Shopping awards for excellence in recognition of our efforts.

Media Education produced the following short film about the Kingdom Shopping Centre after we became this 1st business in Scotland to achieve the Community Mark standard, featuring our sponsored Police Officer, NHS Well Person Shop, and an interview with Centre Manager Andrew Forrester.

As part of our commitment to providing a safe and secure shopping environment, we are founder members of the Safe Town Centre programme in Scotland, which has now been joined by other leading shopping centres and retail outlets across the country. The Kingdom Shopping Centre actively works in partnership with Fife Constabulary and Fife Council to implement a number of Community Safety and Crime Reduction Initiatives to provide local solutions for local problems, and create a safer environment for those working and using the town centre. Our sponsorship of the wages for an additional Centre Policeman, has led to a reduction in total charges of over 42% in the first 2 years (Fife Constabulary review figures).

We’re also very aware of our social responsibilities and aim to be a good neighbour in the community. Part of this means employing ‘best practice’ to minimise the environmental impact of our operations as much as we can, and being open to new initiatives to improve our procedures wherever possible.

For example, we’ve linked up with Fife Council to provide recycling banks in our car parks for paper, glass, cans and clothing. In addition, we’ve introduced 10 sets of recycling bins throughout the Centre itself so that the recycling process can start at source, have installed water management systems in the toilets to provide more efficient water usage, and light sensors in many areas to conserve energy.

New recycling bins have been placed throughout the malls in the Kingdom Centre

We also have an active environmental policy which enables us to measure our progress year on year. Schemes such as these – whether large or small scale - mean that the Kingdom Centre continues to make a positive and responsible contribution to community life in Glenrothes.
